Power Outages in British Columbia
BC Hydro Reports Widespread Outages
Peachland and Surrounding Areas Affected
A major power outage has affected thousands of customers in British Columbia, including the Peachland area. BC Hydro reports that approximately 2719 customers are without power in and around Peachland.
Additional Outages in Richmond, New Westminster, and Vancouver
Smaller outages have also been reported in Richmond, New Westminster, and on the east coast of Vancouver. The cause of the outages is still under investigation.
BC Hydro Urges Caution and Safety
BC Hydro advises customers to call 1-800-BCHYDRO (1-800-224-9376) or 604-224-9376 to report outages. They also urge customers to stay clear of downed power lines and to use flashlights or battery-powered lanterns for lighting.
Power Restored to Affected Areas
Power has now been restored to the almost 3000 BC Hydro customers who were without power late Thursday morning, May 16, 2024.
Hydroelectric Generation Decline
The outages come amidst a reported 19% decline in hydroelectric power generation over April-June compared to the same three-month period last year.

BC Hydro is investigating the cause of the outages and will provide updates as they become available.
